Hayley's Careers[]

Hayley Lewis The Australian public hold a special place in their heart for swimming champ Hayley Lewis.

The Brisbane mother-of-two may have different priorities since retiring from sporting life, but she’ll always be remembered as the 15-year-old “girl next door” who swam her way to five golds at the Auckland Commonwealth Games in 1990. Hayley took her athletic accomplishments a step further the following year, by surging to 200m freestyle glory at the World Championships in Perth.

Following the birth of her first child Jacob in 1998, Hayley united with Jenny Craig Weight Loss Centres, becoming a key spokesperson, and setting an example to young mothers everywhere with her determined approach to getting back into shape.

May 2000 proved Hayley had done that and more, as victory in the 800m freestyle at the Olympic trials won her a coveted spot on the Australian team – the third Olympic team place of her glittering career. Competing in three events at the World Swimming Championships in Japan in 2001, Hayley won the bronze medal in the 5km open water event.

After learning that open water swimming would not be included at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Hayley opted to retire from competition, but her legacy stands firm, and she remains Australian 5km and 10km open water champion.

As ambitious out of the pool as she was in it, Hayley has enjoyed several successful business ventures since retirement, and is presently proprietor of homewares store Coming Up Roses, located in the beautiful Brisbane suburb of Balmoral. She also leant her considerable expertise to commentate on the Manchester XVII Commonwealth Games. Hayley remains highly sought after for speaking engagements and personal appearances.

Her warmth, compassion and dedication to health and fitness make Hayley an integral member of The Biggest Loser family, and an invaluable inspiration to its contestants.
